The Deadly Desert
A Foretelling of Lions and Liars

History’s Art of Color: muddy,
glory faded, checked out.
The Universal City,
Overloaded Murkiness,
saturated with emotions
is a silent revolution,
the cesspool of you name it
turning itself inside out
and upside down.
The long of it, the short of it,
the upside, the downside
the right-side, the wrong-side.
We the People
are not self-evident,
not self-fulfilled,
or well-adjusted.
We grab and grasp
at the height(s) of false truths
in the dark while plummeting.
There is no spark, no sparkle
for the missing, for the longing.
Self-sabotaging temptations,
questions of reputation,
recapitulation: sins of repetition
keep us safe,
hold our place.
It’s called fear.
It’s known as fear.
It residing in the hearts
and the minds of the fearful.

Stop.
Think.

Be Brave.

“People often do a good deed without hope of reward, but for an evil deed they always demand payment.”
― L. Frank Baum, The Emerald City of Oz
