Affectation

Finally revived
From your half-truths

Lies: sins of omissions
You took my breath away
Laid me to rest
While Lying in Wait — four days
I traveled to Nain
Bethany and Galilee too
Cruel is the beautiful ugly man
Whose façade got wet
Exposing the bone

    1. Hi George, thank you. I’m pleased you liked this effort. It’s an old piece, almost timeless in it’s commentary, ugly goes to the bone. I hope you’ve been having a productive and creative Friday. ~ Mia

    1. Hi Brian, when I give thought to it, I find myself wondering if it’s all an illusion, and is everyone dreaming the same dream? Maybe Poe was on to something. I can’t help on the Molière quote, I searched yet fell short for an answer. Please have a good day and a lovely weekend. ~ Mia

    1. Hi Rob, thank you. That’s a good one, should we be accountable for what we withhold? I hope you’re having a Happy Friday and soon to be pool side. Please enjoy the upcoming weekend. ~ Mia 🙂

  1. A remarkable story told in few words. Whether factual or a fiction matters not. Michael Ondaatje would be proud, possibly jealous that these words are yours, not his. At last, something worthy to read and absorb.

    1. Mike, thank you very much a wonderful comment, you’re far too kind. “If only” comes to mind when I think of Michael Ondaatje, thank you again. Please enjoy the rest of your day and have a terrific weekend. ~ Mia

  2. Poignent, direct and shredding façades. Superb piece.

For some reason I didn’t get a notification when you posted this so I didn’t see it until now.

  3. Extraordinary Copper. I see the sins of omission make an appearance, and they trouble the conscience more, I think, than the stupid stuff we do (that I do anyway. Someone once said that heaven was a matter of milk bottle tops, all the small details decide the fate of our souls. Sorry I digress but excellent.

    1. Thank you, Mr. Cake. Sins of omissions are a minefield. It’s all found in the details, and the smaller the detail the more heaven or havoc it plays on our souls. Please have a wonderful evening, I will be making my way over shortly.

    1. Hi Lola, thank you for the nice words. I can’t imagine anyone has not experienced this on one level or another. How can you avoid it? Thank you the weekend was lovely, I hope that you enjoyed yours and are having a wonderful week so far. ~ Mia 🙂 💗

      1. I agree Mia! When one loves one risks much, sometimes too much. I have mentally pinned scarlet letters on several over time. Have a lovely and creative rest of the week and weekend! – Lola 😀💕

          1. This is so true Mia! I feel the same way. I’ve always loved the song “Daughters” by John Mayer and especially these lyrics;
            On behalf of every man
            Looking out for every girl
You are the God and weight of her world
So fathers, be good to your daughters
Daughters will love like you do
Girls become lovers who turn into mothers
So mothers be good to your daughters too.”
            Have a great weekend! – Lola 💜

    1. Thank you, I thought it’s the perfect song, especially because there is no perfect. Some will argue we’ll all be saved, while some will say none of us will be saved. I think I would rather have someone lie to my face instead of the silent sin of omission.

  4. You cover so much with so few words with this piece of work ~ impressive Mia, and so powerful. “Cruel is the beautiful ugly man, Whose façade got wet, Exposing the bone” ~ such souls will always be revealed, the problem is just how long this process will take.

    1. Hi Randall, I hope you’ve been well. Thank you for your kindness. I completely agree, they do eventually reveal themselves and how true, “the problem is just how long this process will take.” Missteps and misfortunes always worth exploring, I think it shows where we’ve been and where we’re going. Please take good care and enjoy your Friday and the upcoming weekend. ~ Mia

  5. Tons of creative complete whole. You’ve made me think in your way of writing. I admire those writers who make other writers think and view poetry and the world in a different perspective. Beautifully written poetic awesomeness.

Mia, I miss reading your work.

P.S Hope you stop by my newest that I posted yesterday. It’s a 3 part series that will have you seeing beyond the cryptic message. 🙂 Hope to hear from you soon my friend. 🙂 And hope to read new works by you. 🙂

    1. Absolutely! Even though this was written some time ago, it’s still true for me. Like you, I think at times I intuitively know the truth. Instead I choose to ignore the little red flags that are popping up, not wanting to trust my own instincts, which of course is at my own determent. Then it becomes my duty to remove myself from the situation, and look forward to a sort of resurrection and redemption for my missteps. There’s something wonderful about hindsight and trusting yourself. Thank you, Stories, for a terrific comment, in my case it’s always good to do a little soul-searching. I hope you’re having a terrific Wednesday. ~ Mia

      1. Even here in Rome there is a pleasant climate.
Until a few days ago we have endured cold and rain for months.
        Now it is definitely better.
Continue to enjoy your favorite period of the year with lots of love and joy for you.
        Good continuation dear.
        Much love to you ❤

  7. Hi Mia, Your ability to put so much content into so few words, is something I enjoy about your writing and look forward to. I had read this sometime ago and had found myself tangled up in a sort of Biblical way in the following lines “While Lying in Wait — four days I traveled to Nain Bethany and Galilee too” This time reading through has changed nothing. Still a favorite part for me, because I suspect the answer to later resolve and growth is within that part of the phrase. With much respect, Daniel

    1. Thank you, Daniel, what a nice thing to say. “I traveled to Nain, Bethany and Galilee too”, is a favorite part for me too. Even without the biblical references, the idea of a resurrection is significant for me, and yes, the resolve and growth is all part of my renewal process. Wishing you a terrific evening, thanks again. ~ Mia

      1. Your welcome Mia, you know for much of my life I associated that renewal process as a painful experience, something to dread. Not so much anymore, thank goodness, but I think most people dread it. What do you think? Once again this was a fantastic piece of writing. Daniel

        1. I think you are right, Daniel, most probably dread the idea of any type of renewal. Maybe because we become so comfortable with the familiar even when it becomes uncomfortable. If we really examine the idea of, “renewal” there are so many type of renewal to experience, physical, emotional and spiritual. Some of us that are unfortunate in some ways are very fortunate in other ways, the renewal is always welcome in my world! 😉

I’m flattered and honored that you would like to share an effort or two of mine on one of your upcoming, “Discover Sundays”. What a lovely and gracious gift. Yes, it’s okay with me, my only request (if possible), would you please give me a heads up on which piece, that way I can give it a quick once over for any errors. Thank you for this generous opportunity.

  9. Mia,

Poetry is often too deep for me to grasp but I appreciate the intricacy of words pieced together to express one’s soul. I wish I could compose words of art such as yours. It seems we share at least one common bond and that is mewsic. You may wish to join me on the dance floor with Monday’s Music Moves Me. Thanks for casting your vote in my May 1st BoTB. Have a tunetastic week, my friend!

  10. This may be the best ending to a poem I’ve read in awhile ~ kept me thinking, kept me asking for more. Powerful. “Cruel is the beautiful ugly man whose façade got wet ~ exposing the bone” An artist with words holds a delicate power many only can dream about. Wishing you well, Mia.

    1. Hi Randall, thank you for your beautiful comment. I can only speak for myself, although I don’t think I’m alone, there are times I find myself disappointed when the truth is revealed. The bitter and the sweet give me a lot to think about, a great source of inspiration. Wishing you well too. Please enjoy the rest of your Friday and have a wonderful weekend. ~ Mia

      1. Yes, I think you are correct. There are times uncovering the truth can be disappointing and horrifying. Perhaps it is because at a young age the world is beautiful and innocent ~ then we grow older and the shadows and darkness of human nature begin to reveal themselves, and when we see/experience this it can be hard to reconcile. Society seems to be wired to ignore these shadows, which is where the power of art comes in. Wish you the best day ahead, Mia. Take care.

        1. Thank you, Randall, for a lovely and thought-provoking reply. Shadows are an interesting thing, whether in reality or metaphor. I agree, it can be hard to reconcile some experiences, and here I couldn’t agree more, “…the power of art comes in”. Art is a great facilitator, allowing our stories to be told. Wishing you a magical week, take good care.
