East

East

Reduction, a man-made affliction: the queue that holds abundant room for cruel intentions and harsh realities. Snapshots of the transparent and apparent blanket everything with a blasé gesso malaise when properly prepared hushes questions of right, leaving blank stares as empty armless hugs, known as the huddle: an odd semblance of warmth. The Deplorables distinguished as righteous, the righteous disguised as deplorable share in the madness and madness: a never-ending role of one in the sameness.

“It’s sickening how The Machine treats its individual parts.”

  1. Happy to see you are back and I hope all is well with you. Since my computer died yesterday, I’m commenting from work. I love the words, so well put together with subtle syntax that bites. I especially love the line “Snapshots of the transparent and apparent blanket everything with a blasé gesso malaise when properly prepared hushes questions of right…” So perfectly stated.

  2. ‘Only when they close the door behind us do we know’ – words from ‘West of East’, Mia the Wordsmith. Your creative talent has been missed. You’re a rare breed; the best way to be.

    1. George, thank you for a spectacular quote and kind words. Jonathan Hickman is brilliant, all out brilliant! ‘West of East’ is right up my alley, really ‘they’ should make ‘West of East’ into a TV series. Imagine, you could compose the music for it. Have a terrific Tuesday. ~ Mia

(Really, really it should be a Netflix Original, not animated though, true to life: dark and gritty!)

    1. Hi Chris! Sharing in the madness make almost anything bearable, almost. Thank you for a warm welcome, we’ll see if I can get back into the swing of things. I hope your New Year has gotten off to a great start and the day job is going well, keep inspiring those ‘young adults’. Have a terrific evening and a wonderful Tuesday. ~ Mia

  3. So fine, Mia. That photo is the perfect setup for the desolation that follows. It gave me a shiver. I love ‘share in the madness and madness’ – wow! My day is brighter for seeing you here. Be well, my friend.

    1. Hi Aruna, indeed the image conjures so many scenarios. For me most of the images speak to the condition of the individual, or rather the lack of the individual. Thank you for your wonderful comment, have a marvelous week!

          1. Oh Mia, I’m so sorry for the delay in responding. I bit off more than I could chew when I tried to return to the blogosphere couple of months ago. I was preparing for an intensive 5-week ESL course and had to plan – not only 10 grammar lessons – but also other events part of the program. It was a very busy 5 weeks once the course started, and leading up to it was crazy busy. That’s done now and I’m trying to catch up. Argh
Anyhow, yes! I’m loving Rio. Didn’t think I would, but it’s great.
How are you doing? Hope you’re doing well. I’ll be reading what you’ve been up to on ‘Copper Cranes’ within the next couple of days.
            Please have a wonderful evening.
            🙂 ❤

  6. The Deplorables and the Righteous… A growing crowd aren’t they?
(The “Machine” was a student political movement at the U of A. – Roll tide! Controlled by the Greeks… Me? I’m a GDI)
    Thank you for your thoughts.

  7. Excellent piece that I have already read twice… I need to read it again to sink in so that it can reveal its depths. Not sure if I am a deplorable or righteous posing as the other. Great to have you back Miss Cranes.

  8. This stream of consciousness is a magnum opus. The likes of which I could get lost in forever.

    “leaving
    blank stares as empty armless
hugs, known as the huddle: an odd semblance of warmth” I want to hug that quote. Just stellar work, Mia.

    1. Welcome back! I was so thrilled to see your posts! Thank you, I’ve already updated the photo with Erich Hartmann’s name. I have another photo that I’d like to use, I don’t know who the photographer is, I wonder if you might know, it looks like it may have been one of the Surrealist. Please let me know if you’d be willing to take a look at it, I would so appreciate it. ~ Mia

          1. I didn’t know, though I’ve seen the photo previously. Michele Clement: http://www.studioclement.com/ This photo isn’t on her site, but it looks like it belongs in “fine art”. Found her cited as the photographer on several professional sites. Glad I could help 🙂
